Date my Mate; A C-Space Love Story

Date My Mate made its debut at CSpace — and what a night it turned out to be.
From the moment doors opened, there was a genuinely lovely atmosphere in the room. Warm, relaxed and full of the nicest people you could hope to gather in one space. It felt less like a “singles event” and more like a brilliant night out with open, friendly energy and the added bonus of meeting new faces.

The whole idea behind Date My Mate was simple: dating, but with backup. Daters arrived alongside their wingmen, instantly creating a sense of ease. Name labels clearly identified who was single and who was on wingman duty, which helped take the guesswork out of those first introductions and made it easier for conversations to flow naturally.
And flow they did.
Our little games and conversation starters worked exactly as hoped — gentle nudges rather than forced interactions. Conversation Jenga blocks prompted easy questions, bingo cards encouraged guests to meet different people around the room, and our red flag vs green flag window sparked plenty of giggles (and lively debate). It turns out everyone has an opinion on what counts as a red flag in dating.
Throughout the evening, there was a steady hum of chatter, laughter and that lovely feeling of people genuinely connecting. Some guests came to support their mate, some came bravely solo, and others simply wanted to try something different from the usual swipe culture. Whatever their reason, the shared vibe was the same: open, kind and up for a good time.
The concept of having wingmen present created something special. It softened the pressure that can sometimes come with dating events and turned it into a shared experience. People were hyping each other up, making introductions and celebrating small wins — which is exactly what we hoped Date My Mate would be about.
For a first event of its kind, we couldn’t be prouder of how it felt. It was an opportunity to step away from screens, meet others in real life and make genuine connections — romantic or otherwise.
Most importantly, it felt good. Natural. Friendly. Fun.
And judging by the smiles, the laughter and the feedback on the night, Date My Mate is only just getting started.
