Boring January? Not with a chilled out Board Games night at C-Space!

January has a habit of asking too much of us. New goals, fresh starts, pressure to be productive — all while the days are short and the weather’s doing its thing. So this week at C-Space, we decided to do something a little different.

Instead of rushing into the year, we slowed it right down.
Our board game night wasn’t about winning (although there were definitely some competitive moments). It was about connection. About sitting around a table, phones face down, dice rolling, cards being shuffled, and conversations flowing without an agenda.
Why January Needs Nights Like This
After the buzz of December, January can feel quiet — sometimes too quiet. For many people, especially those working remotely or freelance, that silence can creep into everyday life. Board game night was a reminder that community doesn’t have to be loud or complicated. Sometimes it’s just a shared laugh, a bad strategy, and someone making a cup of tea for the table.
There was something grounding about it. No screens. No deadlines. Just people being present.
The Joy of Slowing Things Down
January isn’t the month for sprinting — it’s the month for settling in. The games gave us permission to pause, to take turns, to enjoy the process rather than rush to the end. And honestly? That felt like exactly what the start of the year needed.
Between rounds, chats drifted from work to weekends, plans for the year, winter walks, and the odd sea swim brave enough to be mentioned. It was relaxed, unforced, and very C-Space.
Community Beyond the Desk
What nights like this remind us is that co-working isn’t just about desks and Wi-Fi. It’s about creating space for people to connect outside of “work mode”. When you sit across from someone playing a game, you see them differently — and that connection carries back into the working day in the best way.
You turn up the next morning not just to work, but to a place where you feel known.
January doesn’t need fixing. It needs softening. And if that looks like board games, shared laughs, and a slower evening with good people — we’re here for it.
Here’s to more moments like this as the year unfolds.
